Sialyl Lewis X is a tetrasaccharide comprising an N-acetyllactosamine disaccharide which is modified with a sialic acid on the 3-position of galactose and a fucose at the 3-hydroxyl of N-acetylglucosamine. The anomeric R-group can represent either an aminopentanol linker or an aminopentanol conjugated to biotin.

Compound information:  Sialyl Lewis X is an important glyco-epitope comprising a terminal α2,3-sialic acid and internal α1,3-fucose linkage. This tetrasaccharide is a reported ligand for the selectin family (E-, P-, and L-selectin), mediating the initial rolling and adhesion of leukocytes on activated endothelium during inflammation. The same epitope is recognized as a tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen, with elevated surface expression linked to selectin-mediated metastasis in several cancers. With the aminopentanol linker, this compound can be conjugated to surfaces or carrier proteins to study selectin-carbohydrate binding kinetics or to support selectin-inhibitor discovery efforts.
